Just Me and My Friend was the very first track recorded for this album. I had no idea at the time that it would eventually become the title track. In fact, I had just written it two days before I dragged Reverend Robert into the studio!
Robert and I had just met a few months prior in Clarksdale, MS, and were headed out on our first musical foray as a duo. I wrote the song the day before he came to town, worked it out with him the day he arrived, then tracked it the following day prior to hitting the road. As you can hear, he nailed it with that National resonator!
It's a song about a rambling hobo and his best friend - his dog.
"He don't ask for much" which is good, because "I ain't got nothin'"
